VISIT MESQUITE, NEVADA: OLD VEGAS FEEL WITH A CHEAPER PRICE TAG

If you’re captivated by the luster of Las Vegas but cringe at the thought of its price tags, Mesquite, Nevada, is your out-of-the-box getaway. Tucked away just over an hour from the glamour of The Strip, Mesquite welcomes you with an old Vegas charm long gone from the neon lights.

The town’s allure lies not in its size—because it’s a pint-sized Vegas in its own right—but in the promise of an adventure larger than life. This post unveils the hidden treasures of Mesquite, catering to travelers thirsting for the spirit of classic Vegas without the hefty cost.

A Charismatic Community

Mesquite may not be an urban giant, but it’s robust in community spirit. Here, the warm welcome and a sense of belonging permeate the air, from the moment you stroll into one of its bustling casino resorts to the instant a local diner’s regulars beckon you to join in their banter.

Visitors and locals will enjoy the Donkey History Museum, Mesquite Fine Arts Center and Gallery (where you can also sign up for art classes), and the Virgin Valley Museum, chock full of goodies and enlisting enthusiastic docents.

If you are traveling with kids or have dogs, take advantage of the many parks —Hafen Lane Park (also a summertime splash pad), Marilyn Redd Park, and Pioneer Park are a few of them.

Mesquite is a distinctly alive community, pulsing with a camaraderie that many larger tourist hubs fail to replicate. It’s home to me.

Mesquite’s Marvelous Casinos

The heart of Mesquite beats in its trio of magnificent casino resorts, where the nostalgic glow of Old Vegas thrives. The Casablanca Resort and Virgin River Casino (sister properties) stand as bastions of entertainment, offering the chance to win big at the gaming tables, enjoy the resort’s opulent amenities, and savor upscale dining experiences.

Schedule yourself for a massage or seasonal body wrap at Casablanca, allowing time to enjoy the spa’s outdoor pools that will astound you. Don’t miss the heavenly outdoor hot tub tucked a bit near the picturesque outdoor pool and walkway to the spa.

Kids and families will love Virgin River offerings, with a fun arcade, a bowling alley, and Sierra’s buffet, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Bingo is also offered to 18-year-olds and over eight times per day.

Spanning the threshold of the Eureka Casino Resort across the street promises an evening of glitzy fun and perhaps a serendipitous encounter with Lady Luck herself. Come for the Sunday buffet.

Both casinos pay well and have many special events to win even bigger; I’ve witnessed it firsthand. Rooms at Eureka are the best in town; they have a lovely pool with two hot tubs.

The food scene in Mesquite aims to please, tantalize, and delight. The dining establishments here are as varied as they are satisfying, with each bite delivering a mix of flavors that celebrate the town’s diversity.

Mesquite is a golfer’s delight, boasting some of the Southwest’s most picturesque and challenging courses. With its Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay-designed courses, the Oasis Golf Club offers a golfer’s paradise with rolling greens that blend seamlessly with the desert’s natural contours.

From the Mesquite Balloon Festival to the Mesquite Fine Arts Festival, there is something on the horizon that always adds a splash of color to the town’s tapestry.

Don’t miss the Mesquite Music Festival, a homage to rock and roll, or one of the many classic car shows that roll through the streets—each event a testament to Mesquite’s flair for the community and celebration.
